What is Multiple Personality Disorder?

Multiple Personality disorder is a psychiatric disorder characterized by having at least one "alter" personality that controls behavior.  The state of consciousness of the individual who has this disorder is absent, in which the individual could not identify itself because these “alters” occur spontaneously and involuntarily, and function more or less independently of each other.

"Sybil said: 'Well, do you want me to be Helen?' And I said, 'What do you mean?' And she said, 'Well, when I'm with Dr. Wilbur she wants me to be Helen.' I said, 'Who's Helen?' 'Well, that's a name Dr. Wilbur gave me for this feeling."

In many cases, Multiple Personality Disorders (MPD) are caused by damaged memory filters which allows other personalities to control the present day body-mind in ways that are both inappropriate and damaging.
